MY LIFE IN TRAINS
Lineside and Station Sequences
Part Five
New Barnet for a Couple of Hours – 17 October 1959
and Two Cloudy Winter Days at Ponders End
24 October and 27 December 1959
A couple of weeks later and I was back at New Barnet for a couple of hours. Starting with two more BRCW Type 2s (Class 26) to complete three in a row with the last one seen on the way from Potters Bar to New Barnet two weeks before, all the rest of the photos I took were of steam. A good variety of classes too.
The final photos of 1959 were all taken from the footbridge at Ponders End on murky days –with poor composition and the need to open the aperture to f/4 with a 1/125th shutter speed, these are purely record shots. I wouldn’t have considered showing these to anyone else under any circumstances, but I understand some people like to ‘cop’ from photos on the web!
My notes show that I took two more photos on the first day, of another J39, 64958, on an up freight at 15:53, and L1 67734 on a down passenger train at 16:12, but I’ve never scanned them. The negatives are very, very thin.
