MY LIFE IN TRAINS
Lineside and Station Sequences
Part Thirty One
Leicester London Road, Hatfield and a Dorset Field Trip – Early 1962
At the beginning of this series, I warned you that I would include every railway photo of mine that I have scanned – good, not so good and bad. These are some of the worst! Even my notes have let me down, and I have no idea exactly when I took the photos at Leicester – I suspect when I went for my University interview, so probably early in 1962. As for Hatfield, my best guess is sometime in 1962, before I went on a geology and geography field trip with my school to Swanage in the first week of April.

BR 9F 2-10-0 No 92113 heads an up freight at Leicester London Road, probably early in 1962.
MR 4F 0-6-0 No 43977 heads an up freight, with some interesting vehicles in the formation, at Leicester London Road, probably early in 1962.
A south bound class B passenger train passes Hatfield station behind an unidentified English Electric Deltic some time before in April 1962.
BR built A1 4-6-2 No 60125 'Scottish Union' (I think) passes Hatfield station on a down express some time before April in 1962.
BR built A1 4-6-2 No 60149 'Amadis' heads south past Hatfield station some time before April in 1962.
Preserved LSWR T9 4-4-0 No 120 captured from a passing train in the Southampton area, probably on 2 April 1962.
I've been told this is probably the west facing bay at Southampton Central.
SR Q Class 0-6-0 No 30548 caught from a passing train on the way back from Swanage, probably on 6 April 1962.
Can anyone identify when and where this was?
I think No. 120 is in the west facing bay at Southampton.
