Engine Portraits - Part Eight
Newton Abbot – 29 August 1960
Exeter – 30 and 31 August 1960

At the end of August 1960, I went on holiday with my parents by train to Teignmouth in Devon. I had planned meticulously for this trip and, using rover tickets, I would visit many sheds in the south-west. I even went to the trouble of getting permits for a mythical party of spotters – in the event, as a shy lad with no companions, I carried the permits but showed them to no-one, and bunked the sheds as usual. The one shed I couldn’t get a permit for was Newton Abbot, but here are a few photos of locos in the shed yard taken from the station platform.

For the next two days the only shed I saw was Exeter – on the first day a couple of photos from the platform of St David’s station and on the following day a few photos around the shed itself.

You will have seen some of these before if you followed My Story.
